Word: Banal
Part Of Speech: adjective ; noun: banality; plural noun: banalities; adverb: banally
Pronunciation: /bəˈnɑːl/
Meaning:
so lacking in originality as to be obvious and boring.
Synonyms: trite, clichéd, vapid, predictable
Antonyms: original
Word Origin: mid 18th century (originally relating to feudal service in the sense ‘compulsory’, hence ‘common to all’): from French, from ban ‘a proclamation or call to arms’; ultimately of Germanic origin and related to ban.
Use in sentence:
- adjective: When Greenblatt discusses the sources of Shakespeare ‘s inspiration, they are often stunningly banal and overly speculative.
- noun (pl): The trip offers an escape from the banalities of daily life.

Ah, my banal life! I wouldn’t have wanted it earlier, but at my age, banal is good – restful and peaceful, mostly. 🙂

You’ll have to write all these things dear otherwise it won’t be much use to the readers.
