  1. No. No. No. This was one video that I disliked. To the core!
    1. It deals with urban and elite women. Generally those born with a silver spoon.
    2. There are choices and then there are choices. Freedom of choices cannot be blanket. For example, sex outside marriage is adultery and in no way empowerment.
    3. Real women struggling with work, family and personal interests who have truly empowered their lives figure nowhere.
    4. We are threatening men – ring on our finger, surnames. That line was a threat.
    5. These choices are mainly for both men and women. But if a man dared to say the same – he’ll be shamed to no end.
    ~Sorry for the rant.

  2. Heena, this is an awesome video which, im my opinion, women worldwide should watch, The constant theme of ‘My choice’ is exactly what every woman need to hear … and truly believe. I know that’s easy for me to say, living in a country where women’s choices and decisions are respected by most. We all need to look forward to a future where everyone – man or woman – has the right to decide his/her own destiny, and no one is made to feel subservient to others and have life’s important choices made for them.

    • I’m glad that you liked it Millie! 🙂
But unfortunately, so many Indians feel that this video is worth trash! Can you believe… no one wants to see the main intention of the video. Everyone is out there picking up bits and pieces which don’t even mean anything… I guess, that itself shows that Indians DO need to change the way they think.
To be honest, I feel grateful to have been born in a family where girls were preferred over guys… (lol! talk about gender inequality!) but apparently most of the Indian women are really treated like pets (yea, that correct!) I know a few personally, and the dumbest part is they are happy that way! I mean… GOD! I don’t even see any hope in case of such people.
You won’t believe but some really renowned women in India are saying that this video is useless and it applies only to the upper class females! This is just sad… I hate to admit it but the women in India itself don’t want to do anything good for their kind…

Sorry for rambling… but I’m really glad that atleast my readers are liking it 🙂

      • I follow several blogs by Indian women, Heena and, like you, they’re all sending out the same message. I just hope it eventually gets through to the people concerned in India, as well as the rest of the world. It’s sad that many Indian women are happy with their status and don’t want things to change. You bloggers all do a great job in making the situation clear and that change is the only way forward. Thank you for sharing the video with us all. 🙂

        • Actually, I rarely follow any Indian bloggers and the reasons are obvious. But I’m glad that the ones you follow are all spreading the message! 🙂 I like them already 😀
Thanks for voicing you opinions Millie!

          • The ones I follow write some hard-hitting stuff on the subject. but I can understand what you say about some of them out there, having just read your previous comment. Have a great evening, Heena. 🙂

  3. i have a little different opinion here ..
//to have a baby or not// . my choice?? well i thought its a shared decision by couples
//Don’t be upset if i come home at 4 am ? my choice?//
well which parent or husband for that matter will not be worried? regarding the safety at least .
although i think whatever a person’s choices are , they themselves are accountable for it , i think people can do anything and just get away with two words. “My choice”

    • The decision of having a child is mostly the decision of in-laws and husband… rarely of women. All this video says is, the choice of women should be accepted as well.
Why can only men decide or the “others” decide for women. I have a husband but if I don’t want to have a child for the next 5 years, then I won’t… It’s my choice and it’s my body! No one can make that decision for me!
And yea… family can be concerned for me but if I have work, then yes, like any “guy” I’ll also come home late if I have to…
And if there’s anyone who gets away with unacceptable stuff then it’s”MEN” and not women…
In rural women are treated like pets… not men!
Everyone should respect the intention of the video rather than getting “offended” in each and every sentence… Rather than picking on each and every word, it’ll be better if people try to “understand” what the video really is for and make others understand!
And anyways, if you get offended then it’ll be wise to not comment on blogs where you’ve never visited before! I guess this is the first time I’ve seen you here… well your “reaction” is the reason why directors need to make more and more of such videos!

      • I think you should stop jumping into conclusions . you neither know about my life as well. I think I should stop commenting on blogs where difference in opinion is not accepted .
Kindly visit my blog and read a post called ‘ true leaders ‘ I have written it even before this vedio is released.
And by the I better understanding of feminism and I support humanism more than anything . I have never Ill treated anyone nor I have a belief system them I or man is superior and rest are inferior.
I can give you 100s of examples where I have seen women doing exceptionally well without an ego of my choice kinda attitude. I respect them .
My point here is we all have certain phases in life where we need to take shared decision , take guidance . relationship is about fulfilling shared dreams and not just my choices or your choices.
        Thanks and bye.

        • First of all, I would have welcomed your opinions if you would have been my “reader”, but as it turns out this is the first post you’ve visited and I really don’t think that it’s good-blog-manners to visit a new blog (which is new to you) and start voicing your opinions… Imagine a group of friends talking about an issue and suddenly a stranger comes and starts voicing his opinions to them, well it is called bad-manners.
If we would have been blog-buddies, I would have welcomed your opinions, as I’ve done with my other “real” readers.
And as you claim that you know so much and as you are a life coach I still can’t understand how can you get so offended by a sentence in this video. The main this is the intention. The intention with which this video was created is good and I feel that’s what matters at the end.
No one is asking women to be arrogant and say it’s “my choice” (only the spoofs and the fools are doing that.) Rather as an Indian, I’m sure you know that girls are being accused for rapes, for the clothes, their timings, their attitude… and that’s what this video denies… that women should have the right to take their own decisions.
I know you are not one of the, but there are a lot of men (maybe more than 90%) who think women simply can’t have any choice in anything… this video is for them!
And I agree, shared decisions is what even I believe in, but that case comes in lives of people like us, who have well-educated and broad minded families, but what about the ones who are not so privileged??? This video is is spreading awareness about them, who are suppressed!

  4. As a human being and a Christian, I believe that all people have free will. Whether culture, society, world-views or other humans have enslaved women or not, we all, as human beings, have free will. What we do with that free will is our choice. But we must not get caught up in the emotion of it all, but also realize that there are consequences to our actions and choices. Kind of makes one think twice before following the crowd by saying, “I am Woman, hear me roar”.
Don’t get me wrong. I’ve been all over the world and have knowledge about the different world-views and religions that exist. My husband teaches on the subject. I know that too many women, the world over, have suffered and undergone oppression. Even still in the western world, women still fight for ‘equality’. I think globalization, fragmentation in belief systems, and humanism contributes a lot to the breakdown of morality, and to a very self-centred mind-set. Of what is right and what is wrong. I am a woman, but if I have a baby growing inside of me, what right does that give me to extinguish another human’s life? I am a woman, but if I don’t ‘feel’ in love with my husband anymore, what right do I have to just get up and leave and tear his heart out? And if there’s children involved? What right do I have to tear a family apart and allow them to grow up dysfunctional? Just saying.
I don’t want to be a downer, nor am I trying to be. You did invite comments and opinions, so I’m giving mine.
Thank you for sharing this. It opens my eyes up even more on a sociological level.
    🙂

    • I respect your view point and agree with some!
Abortion is a crime, no one has the right to kill anyone… but as the video says, women should have a say in whether or not they want a child in the first place…
Though I’ve never faced gender inequality personally but I see it around me everyday! i know so many women personally (friends and extended families) who are treated like pets… They don’t have a choice in anything, sometimes not even in the food they eat and generally never in the clothes they wear!
It’s really frustrating to see women themselves supporting all these unacceptable things (yea, Indian women tend to be this way!) I just hope that everyone gets the basic intention with witch these guys have made the video: awareness about gender inequality.
Thanks a lot for watching the video and voicing your opinion! 🙂

      • “women should have a say in whether or not they want a child in the first place…”
–Totally agree. Unfortunately a lot of women, way too many actually, are in bondage to cruelty and harsh world views. I remember when I was working in Afghanistan. I was at a woman’s prison. There was a girl there that was put there by her husband. The reason: She had only baby girls and he hit her because of it. So then, she ran away. When he found her hiding out at her aunt’s, he threw her in jail for her to to learn her lesson. He was so old for her, and she was only a teenager when they married.
Do you live in India? I lived there for while back in 2008, in Jaipur. Then I was also there for a bit in 2000. Great country.
Yea, I hope that people get the basic intention as well.
I want to thank you sooooo much for engaging with me in this conversation. I’m so glad you gave a thoughtful response. Some people wouldn’t be willing to communicate on a more sociological and intelligent level. I am more than pleased that you did. Soooo, a huge thanks.

        • OMG! That’s horrible! I guess in India also there are some people, especially in villages, here women are treated this way. I guess this is just the beginning of matters getting worse for them!
And yea, I stay in India and I’m an Indian by birth. And I agree, India is indeed a great country!
Thanks YOU for being so responsive and thoughtful! Even I’m very glad to have had this conversation with you… We can all learn so much from your experiences.
You’ve truly inspired me. Thanks 🙂
And also thank you for your kind words!
          Have a glorious day 🙂
