Classes

Following are the Writing Classes that I offer. I am also a verified teacher on SkillShare and EduSity platforms. Currently, I’m in the process of uploading my class videos on both these online learning platforms. I’ll post those links here once they are ready for learning.

I give lectures On writing in 3 forms:

01

Workshops

Workshops are intense, information-packed lectures that include numerous writing exercises such as freewriting, prompt-writing, letter-writing, flash-fiction writing and analyses of fiction works, etc., and includes some writing-related activities. I generally take online workshops and begin these exercises 10 days before the workshop, so that it helps the students to enter the right frame of mind in order to reap full benefits of my lectures by being a lot more absorbent for creative reception of my lectures.
My workshops are generally of 2-6 hours depending on the subjects I am covering. I primarily teach Creative Writing but my area of expertise is Long Form Fiction (fiction novel, if you must.)
I personally try to connect with each and every one of my students and provide feedback for each and every single one of their completed exercise, activities and analysis helping them realise their weaknesses as well as strengths and introducing them to their grey areas so that even after the workshop they can continue improving and learning.

My workshops are generally comprised of 2 batches for each workshop to be able to accommodate everyone’s convenience. I do not take more than 10 people per batch.
I conduct my workshops on Google Meet and lecture on each topic is followed by a doubt-clearing flash session. I dedicate an entire hour after the workshop only for doubt-clearing and writing-related discussion.

My workshops are generally expensive than 90% other writing workshops because unlike them I actually teach relevant topics, covering each and every aspect of the topic that I take in my hands. Also, I make sure to collaborate with a publisher for the workshop so that my students can get legitimate certification for these workshops.

Classes

The main difference between my workshop and classes is that workshops cover a lot of area in very less time whereas classes are curated topic-wise focusing on particular topic or group of topics in a comparatively longer period of time.
Classes are less intense in a way that they are not completed over a period of 1 or 2 days, but more focused because they concentrate on fewer topics, giving every student enough time to learn, absorb, apply and be able to ask lots of doubts and have discussions about the topics they learned.
My classes are longer, usually spanning over 1-2 weeks. They are a great combination of online lectures, writing exercises, assignments and their completion (which helps me to know whether the students are absorbing the topics I am teaching or not, despite what they may think) and feedback. I also make sure to include at least one famous work of fiction for literary analysis (the length of the work depending upon the comfort level of the students.)

My classes are of 2 types: Classes & Private Classes – yes, I do provide private classes because being an artist, I know many writers are introverts and like to be a lone wolf rather than being a part fo a pack.
In Classes, I undertake only 4-5 students to maintain the integrity of the class and to give everyone the space to work on their own pace.
I conduct my lectures on Google Meet as well as Skype (whatever suits the students) twice or thrice a week, depending upon the topics that have to be covered. Each lecture is followed by an hour of doubt-clearing and discussions on the lecture. I then provide meticulous exercises and activities and even questionnaires on the topic(s) discusses for the students to complete within the week and submit before the next week’s lecture. The next week’s lecture starts with discussing those exercises and clearing more doubts before beginning with the new topics.

Webinars

My webinars are free for all lectures that I try to do on a bi-monthly basis for writers who either can’t afford to pay for my workshops or classes or the ones who are new tot he field and are sceptical about investing money in the “learning of an art” – read it honing of the craft.

I respect artists, but the biggest downfall of most artists is scepticism and more so when it is either based on false pre-conceived notions or is a product of poor judgement. So I try to cover 2-3 topics, either Ron the whole or sometimes specific ones for these webinars, in order to teach everyone I can the basic, foundational topics that every writer must know. I also try to myth busts about creative writing in general and fiction writing in particular and sometimes give lectures of specific topics, such as writing a novel, writing a first draft or plot structuring, etc.

I usually conduct these webinars on Facebook as Facebook Live event because it is the most commonly used platform and is accessible topmost writers, though I am planning to do it on Instagram live too.

Just because these webinars are free, it doesn’t mean they are not important. I usually advise all my new students and also the sceptics to make enquiries about my classes and workshops to first watch the video recordings of my webinars and then, if they like what they see, to take up my workshops.

Unfortunately, I have now stopped creating notes for webinars for distribution because in the end I can only do so much for free and I do have to make money as a writer myself. So notes are only for the paying students, though while watching the webinar or while re-watching it (you can stream it on my YouTube channel or my website) you are free to create your own notes. But I do clear all the doubts of my webinar audience.
